This CD is an addition to the Broderbund/Genealogy.com Family Tree Maker collection of data archive CDs of interest to British family historians, and those who have British roots. The CD is not complete, but does contain 1.2 million indexed records taken from all areas of the UK; and provided the largest amount of transcribed UK 1851 Census information available on CD at the time it was made. CD272 has been compiled by Broderbund from records supplied by Ron Taylor in Canada.

- the records are useful in determining the distribution of a surname in the UK
- hotspots of surname density may be identified leading to valuable clues in the chase for hard to find ancestors
